.to the philippines!.

10 January 2009

in a few hours i’m heading out to the homeland–the outermost parts (at least from florida) of the earth.  the hardest part about going–leaving the wife and kids for two weeks.  the most exciting–hanging out with herschel and mike, visiting a child that i’ve sponsored for 11 years through compassion, possible scuba diving in the philippines where i got certified many moons ago, working with the manila church, seeing relatives, etcetera.  herschel and mike have been traveling regularly to manila to train key leaders in the churches.  i’m so excited to take part in this unique opportunity because it is critical to raise up filipino nationals equipped to share the gospel.  i needed to wait until i saw the gators in the national championship before i left (not really), and i’ll catch the super bowl when i return but i’ll miss the presidential inauguration.

for those that want to pray, here is a list of prayer requests while i’m away.

■ Oleah and the kids in my absence

■ My safety while traveling, especially while travelling to southern areas

■ For me to remain healthy, as it has not been uncommon for me to get sick

■ Good fellowship with Herschel and Mike

■ Positive influence on everyone I meet

■ Good training of leaders in the Manila churches

■ God’s provision financially for the trip (contact me if interested in support)

since the philippines is 13 hours AHEAD of florida time (and we are currently not in daylight savings time), i suppose that means i’ll be as far away from florida on the planet as possible.  ok, since i know there are people that actually might refute the accuracy of that last statement, the true antipodal point of florida (and anywhere else in the contiguous u.s.) is in the indian ocean between south africa and australia.  so if i dug a hole in my backyard and went directly through the center of the earth, i would not end up in china, but in the indian ocean west of perth, australia.  so much for squashing childhood sayings.  i suppose that if i did not go directly through the center and dug at an angle, i could dig my way to china.  but let’s not get too technical.

The very heart of your writing is neat and works well with me personally. Throughout the paragraphs you managed to make me a believer. I still would like more information and need you to write more as often as you can. If you accomplish that, I would surely be fascinated. I may come back again to view your updates!
