.leadership in men.
25 October 2008how great this society would be if each man really stepped up to the plate and did their job. the other day i taught at tangent rhythm and it gave me a great opportunity to meditate on leadership in men. my wife challenged the women, while i was sharing with a handful of men about leadership. my purpose was to help the young men understand their roles as leaders and equip them to treat women in God-honoring ways. many of us with y-chromosomes either abdicate or abuse our roles as men; i.e. we refuse to lead and fulfill our roles or we are too authoritative and abuse our responsibilities. neither extreme is appropriate. i admit that many men are like grown-up teenage boys that expect things to be handed to them and then pout when things don’t go right. others are so clueless they have no idea the destruction that they are leaving in their wake. now so i don’t completely rag on my gender, i am blessed to know many men who are not like this and who understand their roles, love their wives with honor, and stand up for righteousness. i confess i don’t know all the answers, but i am learning a whole lot as a husband, father, pastor, research director, son, and most of all from my Abba Father. men are not put on this earth to simply be dutiful and responsible. a real man must know where he comes from and have a purpose and goal for his life. a real man must know his true identity, be convicted of his calling, and unashamedly live out his doctrine.
that’s my son, who’s very confident of his masculinity sitting in front of his sisters’ princess dresses. i thought the shirt was appropriate. by God’s grace he will be the man that God calls him to be.
