.my proverbs 31 woman.
9 September 2008last week for oleah’s birthday we went to the top restaurant downtown per a colleague’s recommendation. the top has now become one of our top 5 gainesville restaurants–great food, amazing selection, great service, funky ambiance, fair prices. will definitely go again sometime. in honor of continuing to celebrate my wife, i found this parallel that i gave to oleah on a date night almost two years ago. the first part is proverbs 31, the second part is how oleah fits each description of that woman. my part is a bit awkward, but i was trying to do my best to match the content of its respective verse. it’s easier to read on paper where they can be viewed side-by-side, but this will suffice. God has blessed me with my perfect partner!
10 A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.
11 Her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value.
12 She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.
13 She selects wool and flax
and works with eager hands.
14 She is like the merchant ships,
bringing her food from afar.
15 She gets up while it is still dark;
she provides food for her family
and portions for her servant girls.
16 She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
17 She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.
18 She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.
19 In her hand she holds the distaff
and grasps the spindle with her fingers.
20 She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.
21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
for all of them are clothed in scarlet.
22 She makes coverings for her bed;
she is clothed in fine linen and purple.
23 Her husband is respected at the city gate,
where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.
24 She makes linen garments and sells them,
and supplies the merchants with sashes.
25 She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
26 She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
27 She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
29 “Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”
30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
31 Give her the reward she has earned,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
10 Mark is so thankful that he has found his Proverbs 31 wife.
Oleah is worth more than she’ll ever realize.
11 Her husband has total confidence in all that she is.
Everything about her is so valuable.
12 Oleah brings him so much good, always desires to want what is best for
her husband, and she’s committed to doing that for the rest of her life.
13 Oleah is diligent and works really hard. She chooses clothes for the
family and joyfully beads, scrapbooks, cleans, and cooks.
14 Oleah thinks about meals in advance.
She goes to the grocery store when needed.
15 Oleah is not lazy and does not sleep in.
She prepares every meal for her thankful family.
She decides how much food our girls should eat.
16 Oleah thinks of ways in which she can bring more
profit to our family. She garage sales and uses that money wisely.
17 Oleah works vigorously when she cleans and straightens up.
She is strong enough to do all the work.
18 Oleah’s wisdom and fear of the LORD will continue to shine
throughout the darkest times in her life.
19 Oleah is very skilled with her hands.
She knows how to use them well in many different tasks.
20 Oleah is willing to help out those who are less fortunate.
She opens her home throughout the week.
21 Oleah is secure in her ability to take care of the household.
She ensures that everyone is appropriately dressed.
She is confident in the LORD’s protection.
22 Oleah ensures that her bedroom has a warm atmosphere.
She is beautiful in her fashionable clothes.
23 Her husband is respected by others. God knows that his loving,
faithful, industrious, and godly wife is a perfect
complement to the man that He created for her.
24 Oleah knits as a hobby
and gives them as gifts.
25 Oleah is clothed with strength and dignity.
She has the best sense of humor.
26 Oleah speaks with wisdom,
and she articulates faithful and wise advice.
27 Oleah takes care of her household
and does not idly waste time.
She knows the details of the household.
28 Oleah is loved dearly by her children.
Mark praises her at every opportunity.
29 Oleah’s abilities, heart, and gifting make her the best wife
that any man could ever ask for.
30 Although Oleah is charming and incredibly beautiful,
she is even more praiseworthy
because she fears the LORD.
She is committed to seeking Him daily.
31 Oleah deserves the best that anyone can give her,
and she is praised by so many others.
