.chemistry on the beach.
23 July 2008i’ve been in st. pete beach for a few days talking all about chemical food contamination. i like the change of scenery…much different from running a lab every day. in particular, this conference is always fun because it’s on the beach, and there’s always plenty to do. no doubt, there’s still a lot of work and it is exhausting sitting in countless seminars, networking with colleagues in my scientific niche, talking to vendors and authors about methods, instrumentation, regulations, quality assurance, and so on. but it certainly does allow some time to think, exercise, eat out a lot, read, and relax. conferences can really be held anywhere; large conference rooms all look pretty much the same. the difference is what is available after the talks. in this case, the schedule is packed pretty tightly, but i did get some good time in for recreation. beach volleyball was a disappointment, as aging chemists can only volley for so long. today is the last day of the conference and i am eager to get back in the lab and tinker with my toys. now if i only could figure out the source of that air leak in my triple quad…hmmmm.
